Madd Again Targets Blood Alcohol Level

From Staff Reports

Mothers Against Drunk Driving once again is trying to get the legal blood alcohol level lowered.

Joan Brown of MADD presented legislation Wednesday to the Senate Judiciary and Rules Committee that would bring the drunken driving level down from 0.10 percent of blood-alcohol content to 0.08 percent.

Brown said states such as California, Oregon and Utah that have enacted similar legislation have experienced drastic reduction in alcohol-related fatalities and drunken driving arrests.

Brown said Oregon statistics show a 32.3 percent decrease in fatal accidents.

Sen. Clyde Boatright, R-Rathdrum, was one of the few committee members who voted against introducing the legislation.

The same legislation was presented last year. It passed the House but died in the Senate committee. Boatright also opposed the legislation then.
