Kaiser Acquires Plant From Reynolds Metals

From Staff Reports

Kaiser Aluminum Corp. said Monday it has acquired a Reynolds Metals Co.’ aluminum extrusion factory in Bellwood, Va., for $40 million cash and assumption of $3 million to $4 million in debt.

The plant employs 385 people who produce seamless tubing and other extrusion products. Shipments in 1996 were 36,000 metric tons, or one third of Kaiser’s entire shipment of 103,000 metric tons of extrusion products last year.

Plans to acquire the Bellwood plant were announced in April. Kaiser also offered at that time to buy Reynold’s aluminum plate sheet plant in McCook, Ill., but that deal fell through in May.
