The Presidential Pitch

Not even a pregame visit by President Clinton on Wednesday to the Philadelphia Phillies’ locker room could break their eight-game losing streak. But later, in the host Baltimore Orioles clubhouse, Clinton confided to outfielder Jeffrey Hammonds, “You don’t think I’d root against the home team?” The Orioles won 10-6. Oriole ace Mike Mussina, Stanford class of ‘91, said he hoped Chelsea Clinton enjoys the school, where she will start in September. He said he didn’t dare tell the president about the social life. “You just can’t be adequately warned about the frat parties,” Mussina said.
