Liberty Whip Comets, Remain Wnba’s Only Unbeaten Team

Associated Press

Sophia Witherspoon scored 21 points as the New York Liberty remained the WNBA’s only unbeaten team after a 65-58 victory over the Houston Comets on Friday night.

Witherspoon was 8 for 13 from the field, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range for New York (6-0).

After building a 31-26 halftime lead with their running game, the Comets (4-3) slowed down after intermission as the Liberty tightened their defense.

After just two points in the first half, Rebecca Lobo responded with 11 second-half points to help the Liberty. She also had a team-high 11 rebounds.

The tighter defense also forced 21 Houston turnovers for the game, which the Liberty converted into 17 points.
