But Did He Ever Get The Grapes Of His Wrath?

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

The Rev. Robert Schuller was back on the air Sunday for the first time since being accused of roughing up a flight attendant the week before.

Schuller, 70, reportedly first clashed with the 35-year-old male attendant over hanging up a garment bag containing his clerical robe. Then they argued over Schuller’s request to have his fruit-and-cheese plate without the cheese.

There was “physical contact” when Schuller left his seat in search for grapes, the attendant claimed, and the televangelist was questioned by the FBI for five hours after landing.

“I am a hands-on person,” Schuller said Sunday during a sermon on his “Hour of Power” show. “I bless. I hold. I hug. I’m a hands-on person, I learned that from Jesus Christ … I failed because one of my weapons, the hands-on approach, didn’t work.”

Loose talk

Kristen Kelch, New York bureau chief of People magazine, on spending $26,450 of the magazine’s money for one of Princess Diana’s dresses: “After all that Di has done for us, this was a chance to give something back.”

Now he’s just 365 degrees of separation from 40

Kevin Bacon turns 39 today.

That’ll teach them to watch their step

Chelsea Clinton’s bodyguards scuffled with two photographers outside a Florence disco early Saturday after they had taken pictures of the first daughter dancing, but no charges were filed. Clinton has been touring Europe following her high school graduation.

So, she’s finally found a happy media

Sarah Ferguson has signed with ABC to do a television special about inspirational people around the United States, according to Time magazine. The Duchess of York also writes a newspaper column, is a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers and is in negotiations with BBC executives for a radio talk show.

Guess that frog she kissed was a toad

The Mirror of London, meanwhile, reports that Princess Diana has not spoken to her former sister-in-law since last November, when Fergie’s book “My Story” was published. What supposedly set her off was the following passage: “Diana helped me by giving me all her shoes (and less happily, her verrucas) - we wore the same size.” (Verruca, it should be explained, is another word for “wart.”)

And she’ll probably be lapping it right up

Lisa McRee, hired to replace Joan Lunden on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” wants her arrival to be low-key. “This is really Joan’s time,” McRee tells TV Guide. “She needs to have a really great and singular goodbye experience. She deserves to do a victory lap.”

Life’s a beach, and then you get married

And speaking of media icons, Howard Stern sidekick “Stuttering John” Melendez was wed Sunday in the Hamptons - after being required to take out a $1 million insurance policy to cover any damages to the beach he borrowed for the ceremony.
