Join The Fun At Logan Neighborhood Party

The fifth annual Logan Neighborhood Block Party wraps up tonight after two days of events.

The free party is being held in three adjoining parking lots at the corner of Indiana and Standard.

Game and snack booths, activities, entertainment and sports contests will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. An hour-long stage program starts at 8 p.m., and features drawings for door prizes.

Local businesses, community and nonprofit organizations and churches are hoping to exceed last year’s record attendance of 4,000.

“The (block party) committee believes when neighbors get to know each other they begin to challenge the results of society’s increasing isolation,” said Gordon Potter, chairman of the event.

Potter credited local businesses and volunteers for making the event work. This year, 111 businesses and 13 community nonprofit organizations are lending their support.

One church pastor views the get-together as family and community bonding.

“I visit around our neighborhood and find that family issues are a central concern,” said John Repsold, pastor of Fourth Memorial Church. “We want to partner with other community service providers to help meet those needs.

“Most of our friends and neighbors want to experience the results of strong homes. We also exist to relate to one another, and we want to meet our neighbors to show them we care about families.”

Also this week, the Minnehaha neighborhood will hold its second annual “Teamwork Saturday.”

That block party is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 4006 E. Buckeye and 4005 E. Marietta. The event is free and open to the public.

Both locations belong to the Minnehaha Covenant Church, which is sponsoring the event in conjunction with COPS Northeast.

Carnivals, live music and free food are being offered. A free 3-on-3 basketball tournament for kids 18 and younger is also planned.
