American League

Sandy Alomar had his 30-game hitting streak stopped, popping out to end the game Thursday night as his Cleveland Indians lost to the Minnesota Twins 8-2 at Minneapolis.

Brad Radke (11-5) won his seventh consecutive start. He struck out Alomar in the second inning and again in the fourth, and retired him on a grounder in the seventh. Alomar popped out to third for the final out.

Alomar, the All-Star Game MVP on Tuesday night at Cleveland, fell one game short of matching the longest hitting streak in Indians history. Nap Lajoie hit in 31 straight in 1906.

Alomar was not only shut down at the plate, the Twins were successful in all five of their stolen base attempts against the All-Star catcher.

Radke gave up two runs and eight hits in seven innings. Charles Nagy (9-5) pitched 5-2/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and five runs.

White Sox 6, Royals 3 Kansas City, Mo.

Tony Muser lost in his managerial debut and Kansas City lost its ninth consecutive game.

Frank Thomas and Ray Durham each drove in three runs for the White Sox.

Durham homered, doubled and scored a career-high four runs.

Muser, 49, was hired Wednesday to replace Bob Boone, fired after the Royals staggered into the All-Star break 10 games under .500 and losers of 11 of 13 games.

Angels 8, Athletics 4 Oakland, Calif.

Jim Edmonds homered and drove in three runs to help Anaheim remain undefeated against the A’s this season.

Edmonds, who had not played in a week because of torn cartilage in his left knee, hit his 15th homer of the season leading off the second, had a sacrifice fly in the third and doubled in a run in the fifth.

The Angels, who are 7-0 against Oakland in 1997, won their third straight.

Red Sox 8, Jays 7 (11) Boston

Boston rallied from 5-1 and 7-6 deficits, winning when Nomar Garciaparra drew a bases-loaded walk in the 11th.
