Ken Caminiti hit a pair of three-run homers and the San Diego Padres sent Colorado to its seventh consecutive loss, defeating the Rockies 11-5 Thursday night at Denver.

In the first inning, Caminiti hit a 465-foot drive into the third deck in right field, making him the first player to twice reach that spot at Coors Field. He connected again in the fourth for his 14th career multi-homer game.

Larry Walker homered and drove in three runs for Colorado, raising his average to .401.

San Diego’s Tony Gwynn went 2 for 6, leaving him at .393, as the Padres stopped a three-game losing streak.

The victory moved the Dodgers within five games of the N.L. West-leading Giants, who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Manny Alexander, activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, tripled home the winning run in the ninth inning for New York.

Cardinals 3, Cubs 2 Chicago

Gary Gaetti led off the ninth inning with his second homer of the game and St. Louis ended a four-game losing streak.

Astros 7, Pirates 0 Pittsburgh

Darryl Kile (11-3), who took a no-hitter into the eighth inning of his last start, pitched a six-hitter as Houston snapped Pittsburgh’s seven-game winning streak and joined the Pirates atop the N.L. Central.

Marlins 8, Phillies 7 Miami

Alex Arias’ pinch-hit single in the ninth inning gave Florida the victory and Philadelphia its 10th loss in 11 games.
