More Clues Sought In Vandalism Of Arch

From Staff And Wire Reports

Authorities say they have new information about the vandalism that destroyed the Eye of the Needle landmark on the Missouri River, but they are still seeking public assistance.

A natural rock arch, the Eye of the Needle was a Montana landmark. But sometime between the morning of May 25 and noon on May 27 the arch was destroyed by vandals.

The Bureau of Land Management and the Chouteau County Sheriff’s Department said they’re trying to track all river use that weekend. They are particularly interested in information regarding two drift boats that were seen together on the river during the time in question.

One of the boats was described as white, 13 to 15 feet long, and had wood gunnels and an anchor bracket on back. One of it’s occupants was described as wearing a light blue raincoat, and the other was wearing a green raincoat.

The second drift boat also had two occupants and might have been light tan.

Authorities are asking anyone who might have information regarding this case to call the BLM or Chouteau County Crime Stoppers. A reward of up to $11,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the vandals.
