Something’s Fishy About Yeltsin’s Vacation

Compiled From Wire Services

Local officials have stacked the deck and stocked the lake to make sure Boris Yeltsin has a good time on his vacation.

Fishing officials in northern Karelia decided to slip 10,000 or so extra fish into the picturesque Ukshozero Lake where the Russian president has been relaxing, the Moscow Times reported.

“We were told by the city administration to make sure (Yeltsin) has a good time, and that’s what we are doing,” the Times quoted an official with the Karelian Fisheries Commission as saying.

Yeltsin, not known to be a keen angler, landed 20 fish Monday and caught another 30 Tuesday, surprising local fishermen, according to his wife, Naina, and newspaper reports.
