Deer Park Man Held For Possession

Compiled From Wire Services

A Deer Park man was arrested after Spokane County sheriff’s deputies found a full-grown marijuana plant burning on his stove Monday.

Jerome J. Burkavage, 29, remains in the Spokane County Jail on a preliminary charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture.

A deputy was called to Burkavage’s trailer at 316 N. Colville after neighbors reported a man walking outside his trailer screaming and swinging a baseball bat at the air.

Burkavage met the deputy at the trailer’s locked screen door, while smoke poured from the east end, still screaming and swinging a golf club, deputies said.

He eventually invited two deputies in and they discovered the burning plant. They also found marijuana growing in a bedroom, spotted many plant buds and saw $20, $50 and $100 bills scattered around the trailer, all of which were seized, deputies said.
