Obituaries

Donald Kallem Kingston, Wash.

Service for Donald E. Kallem, former longtime Eastern Washington University golf coach will be at 1 p.m. today at the Vinland Lutheran in Church in Poulsbo, Wash. Burial will follow at the Vinland Lutheran Church Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kallem, who was 63, died Thursday.

He was born in Des Moines, Iowa.

He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956.

He later received a degree in physical education from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, and a doctorate degree from the University of Montana.

He taught at Drake University for one year before moving to Cheney where he taught physical education for 30 years at Eastern Washington University.

While at EWU he served as head coach of the men’s golf team for 16 seasons and directed the men’s and women’s teams in 1993 and 1994. He was also an assistant football and basketball coach, and was named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) District Coach of the Year three times. He had worked with the University’s Adaptive PE program.

His teams won six straight NAIA district championships from 1967 to 1972 and two more in 1978 and 1979.

Mr. Kallem retired in 1994 as Emeritus Professor and moved to Kingston.

He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney, Masonic Lodge No. 42, and the Kiwanis Club. He was past president of the NAIA Golf Coaches Association.

Mr. Kallem is survived by his wife, Marjory; two daughters, Jo Spaulding of Cheney, and Stephanie Hobbs of Moses Lake; two sons, Daniel Kallem of Ridgefield, Wash., and Kristopher Kallem of Cheney; a sister, Carolyn Gardiner of Iowa City, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns or the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Mary Griffin St. Maries

Viewing for Mary Ellen Griffin, 75, will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Pinecrest Cemetery in Deary, Idaho.

Mrs. Griffin, who was born in Kansas, died Friday.

She grew up in Kansas and moved to Moscow as a teenager.

Mrs. Griffin was a mother and homemaker and moved to Elk River near Moscow, before moving to St. Maries two years ago to be near family.

Her husband, Carl, died in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Griffin of St. Maries and Larry Griffin of Dixie, Idaho; two sisters, Gladys Waldrop and Alice King, both of Puyallup, Wash.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Elsie Cromer Coeur d’Alene

Private burial for Elsie Monzingo Cromer, 91, will be held later at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cromer, who was born in Iowa, died Friday.

She lived on a ranch near Harrison, Idaho, before moving to Dalton Gardens in 1964.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Paul Monzingo died in 1973, and Harry Cromer died in 1989.

Survivors include a daughter; a sister, Pearl Spangler; and five grandsons.

Irene White Elk

Graveside service for Irene Velva White, 91, was Saturday at the Newport (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mrs. White, who died July 8, was born in Boscobel, Wis.

In 1923 she married William White in Scobie, Mont. He died in 1980.

Mrs. White was a homemaker and helped operate the family farm.

She had lived in Elk for 50 years and was a member of the Inland Grange.

Survivors include two sons, John White of Cocolalla, Idaho, and Kenneth White of Deer Park; two daughters, Donna Selder of Spokane and Dorothy Wiese of Dalkena, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Frances Louthan Rathdrum

Memorial service for Frances E. Louthan, 81, was Monday at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Louthan, who was born in Nebraska, died Saturday.

She graduated from high school in Wyoming.

She moved to Rathdrum in 1952, where she owned the M & F Cafe for nine years.

Mrs. Louthan was also a mail carrier in Spirit Lake for 33 years.

She was a member of the Rathdrum Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband, Merle, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Darlas of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Richard Louthan of Seattle and Robert Louthan of Rathdrum; a sister, Mary Jane Weber of Colorado; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Reed Fisher Deer Park

Service for Reed T. Fisher, 79, will be at 3 p.m. today at the Riverside Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be at the Rexburg (Idaho) Cemetery. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fisher, who was born in Rexburg, died Saturday.

He graduated from high school in Rexburg and from the University of Idaho.

In 1944 he married Wanda Heileson in Logan, Utah.

He worked for the Bonneville Power Administration for 30 years and retired in 1979.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife; a daughter, LaDean Rentzschke of Spokane; three sons, Dennis Fisher of Columbia Falls, Mont., Garth Fisher of Alpine, Utah, and Farrell Fisher of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Merle Fisher of Rexburg; a sister, Beth Gunnell of Ogden, Utah; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Dutcher Spokane

Memorial service for Robert “Bob” Dutcher, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial was at the Superior (Mont.) Cemetery.

Born in Titusville, Penn., Mr. Dutcher died July 9.

He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps Camps and worked for the U.S. Forest Service.

In 1972 he moved to Spokane from North Idaho and worked as a selfemployed carpenter and cabinet maker.

He was a member of the Post Falls Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge No. 41, the Idaho Order of the Eastern Star, Carpenter’s Union Local No. 98, and the Civilian Conservation Corps Club.

Mr. Dutcher is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann; two daughters, Beverly Pearson of Spokane and Roberta Dutcher of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and one grandson.

Winston Evans Spokane

No service will be held for Winston P. Evans, 73, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Evans, who was born in Kellogg, died Saturday.

He had served in the Army during World War II and worked as a carpenter on the Crow Reservation in Lodgegrass, Mont.

In 1964 he moved from Billings, Mont., to Spokane and continued to work as a carpenter.

Mr. Evans was a member of the Carpenters Local No. 98.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jewel; two daughters, Mollie Bivens of Spokane and Gloria Chapman of Deer Park; a sister, Ruth Evans of Blackfoot, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Margaret Dauterman Spokane

Service for Margaret L. Dauterman, 85, was Monday at the Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Dauterman died Friday.

She was a lifetime Spokane resident and worked as a bookkeeper in the retail industry.

Her husband of 45 years, Arthur Dauterman, died in 1975.

Mrs. Dauterman is survived by a son, David Dauterman of Spokane; a daughter, Sally Phillips of Spokane; two brothers, Glen Pebles of Spokane and Dan Pebles of Anacortes, Wash.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Svea Furnish Page, Idaho

Service for Svea I. Furnish, 85, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Kellogg Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Furnish, a lifetime Silver Valley resident, died Saturday.

She was born in Kellogg and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Furnish had worked at the Wardner Hospital, Hutton’s Department Store and Smelterville Feed and Farm for many years.

Her husband, Gerald, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Dale Furnish of Spokane; a daughter, Carol Knutson of Alberta; two brothers, Harvey and Robert Johnson, both of Alberta; a sister, Sylvia LeRiche of Alberta; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James Templeton Otis, Ore.

No service will be held for James Emery Templeton, 60, at his request. Pacific View Memorial Chapel in Lincoln City, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Templeton, who was born in St. Joseph, Mo., died June 30.

He graduated from Mead High School and served in the National Guard.

He worked as a cellman for the Martin Marietta Aluminum Plant in Goldendale, Wash., and later owned a remodeling contracting business in Spokane.

In 1974 he married Christine Walker in Spokane.

He moved to Oregon in 1995.

Mr. Templeton is survived by his wife; a son, Marc Templeton of Spokane; five daughters, Gwen Miller, Lisa Porter, Nancy Storer, Helen Schmeginske and Mary Hines, all of Spokane; four brothers, Wilbur, Steve and Bob Templeton, all of Spokane, and Don Templeton of Kennewick; seven sisters, Helen Laws, Mary Koth, Carole Frybarger, Margaret Kelly, and Kay Lessing, all of Spokane, Clara Eaves of Iowa, and Harriet McCormick of Georgia; and 13 grandchildren.

Carl Hansen Wilbur, Wash.

Service for Carl E. Hansen, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Wilbur Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hansen, a lifetime Wilbur resident, died Friday.

He was a farmer.

Mr. Hansen was a member of the Wilbur Lions Club, Wilbur Lutheran Church, Wilbur Grange, Danish Brotherhood, Lincoln County Cattlemens Association, and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence; a daughter, Rhoda Ingram of Spokane; a son, Larry Hansen of Wilbur; three brothers, Ing Hansen of Wilbur, Waldo Hansen of Spokane, and Ivan Hansen of Modesto, Calif.; a sister, Anna Dice of Spokane; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilbur Emergency Medical Technicians or the Wilbur Swimming Pool Fund.

Thelma Johnson Spokane

Service for Thelma O. Johnson, 97, was Monday at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial followed.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Cranfills Gap, Texas, died Friday.

She had lived in Spokane for 21 years and was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Johnson.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Douglas of San Jose, Calif., Sally Lenser of Rocklin, Calif., and Mildred Inhofer of Spokane; a sister, Helen Howard of Memphis, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Edward Foxton Spokane

No service will be held for Edward N. Foxton, 93. Private cremation will be held. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Foxton, a 65-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

He was born Buffalo, N.Y.

Mr. Foxton worked for IBM for more than 30 years and retired at the age of 65.

He is survived by a son, Bill Foxton of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Fred Haydon Hot Springs, Mont.

Memorial service for Fred M. Haydon, 85, was Saturday at the Creston (Wash.) Christian Church.

Mr. Haydon, who was born in Milton Freewater, Ore., died June 27.

He had lived in Creston, Wash., for 40 years and worked as a rodeo clown.

Mr. Haydon moved to Hot Springs eight years ago.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie.

Mr. Haydon is survived by two sons, Larry Haydon of Creston and Donald Haydon of Spokane; a daughter, Junia Chrisman of Davenport, Wash.; a brother, Clifford Haydon of Fairbanks, Alaska; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bonita (Jessee) Baldwin Spokane

Private family service for Bonita (Jessee) Baldwin, 81, was Saturday at the Heritage Funeral Home. Burial was held at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Baldwin, who was born in Walla Walla, died Thursday.

She graduated from Walla Walla High School.

In 1936 she married Corwin “Corky” Baldwin in Yakima. She lived in Spokane for 13 years and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Baldwin is survived by her husband; a son, Roger Baldwin of Veradale; two daughters, Beverly Vandemark of Salem, Ore., and Deanne Boutz of Spokane; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Dorsey Elliott Newport, Wash.

Graveside service for Dorsey C. Elliott, 90, was Monday at the Newport Cemetery.

Mr. Elliott, who was born in Latham, Mo., died July 9.

In 1926 he married Leone Williams in Broken Arrow, Okla. They moved to Newport in 1972.

Mr. Elliott worked in machinery repair for several years and retired as a warehouse foreman for the L.A. Ice and Cold Storage Company.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Gerald Elliott of Temecula, Calif.; two daughters, Toni Latus of Newport and Sharon Timmons of Spokane; a sister, Sadie Brown of Overland Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
