Deer Park Boy Revived By Lifeguards

From Staff Reports

Lifeguards resuscitated a Deer Park boy who nearly drowned in the city swimming pool Wednesday, authorities said.

The boy, thought to be 7, was playing in the shallow end of the crowded pool at James G. Swinyard Park about 4 p.m. when he went under and didn’t surface, said Ted Campbell, a Spokane County sheriff’s deputy.

A boy who saw the incident and knows the victim said the child couldn’t swim. Travis Temple, 10, said the boy took off a life jacket just before he sank to the bottom.

The boy, whose name could not be confirmed, wasn’t breathing when swimmers and lifeguards pulled him out of the water. Lifeguards gave the boy cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Campbell said.

“He was breathing on his own when the ambulance crew took him away,” the deputy said.

The boy was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center by ambulance.
