Help Needed To Pick New Name For Center

How about the name Community Center West? Or, does Fort George Wright Community Center sound more appropriate? Then again, does the Riverbend Community Center tickle your fancy?

Maybe West Central Community Center is good enough.

This is your chance to decide.

Officials at the West Central Community Center are asking people in the neighborhoods they serve - West Central, Emerson-Garfield and Audubon - if their name accurately reflects the community.

Don Higgins, center director, said some people are concerned about the similarity in the names West Central Community Center and West Central Neighborhood Steering Committee.

“The underlying rationale is that the community center should be identified with all three neighborhoods, not just one,” Higgins said.

On the July cover of the center’s monthly newsletter, neighbors are asked to vote for a list of possible name changes.

They are:

Community Center West.

Fort George Wright Community Center.

Fort Wright Community Center.

North Central Community Center.

Northwest Community Center.

Riverbend Community Center.

Riverside Community Center.

Tri-Centers West.

West Community Center.

West Side Community Center.

Residents are also welcome to write in their own selections, Higgins said.

“We want everyone to feel welcome and to have a sense of ownership in the community center,” Higgins said.
