Boise Cascade Wins Bid To Salvage Log Foothills Fire

From Staff And Wire Reports

Boise Cascade Corp. was the only bidder on a 4.2 million board-foot sale to salvage timber from areas burned in last year’s Eighth Street fire.

More than 15,000 acres were burned in the foothills above Boise. Boise Cascade bid the minimum, $408,922 for the wood, mostly Douglas fir.

The timber will be harvested by helicopter, but trucks will have to take the long way around to reach a sawmill at Horseshoe Bend.

The Forest Service originally planned to allow the lumber trucks to travel through a Boise residential area, but withdrew that plan after protests. Trucks will have to travel over the Harris Creek Road from Bogus Basin to the sawmill.
