Wings’ Bowman To Stay On

Compiled From Wire Services

Red Wings’ Scotty Bowman signed a two-year contract, ending speculation that the NHL’s all-time winningest coach would retire. The Hall of Famer has won seven Stanley Cup titles as a coach, one title shy of Toe Blake’s record.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the city of Toronto have again failed to reach an agreement to build a hockey arena at historic Union Station. Leafs spokesman Bob Stellick said 65-year-old Maple Leaf Gardens remains a viable facility in the short term while the club looks for a new site.

An investor group led by former Madison Square Garden President Bob Gutkowski could decide by next week whether to make a formal bid to buy the New York Islanders. The group includes former Islanders left wing Clark Gillies.
