Ncaa Denies Aussie’s Appeal

Compiled From Wire Services

C.J. Bruton got his decision on time. It just wasn’t what he was hoping to hear.

The Iowa State basketball recruit from Australia asked school officials to try to get the question over his eligibility resolved this week. Iowa State athletic director Gene Smith said that the NCAA eligibility committee will not hear Bruton’s final appeal.

Bruton, a 6-foot-2 point guard, was ruled ineligible because he played for money in a league in Australia. The NCAA upheld that decision July 1, but Bruton asked to have the eligibility committee hear his case.

“The NCAA told us the additional information we supplied to them was not compelling enough to warrant a hearing by the entire committee,” Smith said.
