New Sketch Released In Olympic Bombing Fbi Shaves Goatee Of Man On Bench Before Blast

Associated Press

Days before the first anniversary of the deadly bombing in Centennial Olympic Park, federal investigators released a new sketch Thursday of a man seen sitting on a park bench before the bomb went off.

The sketch shows how the man would look without a goatee. The original, released in March, showed the man with a goatee, as he was described by people in the park.

“This individual may have been cleanshaven before the incident or may have shaved his goatee since the incident,” said FBI agent Jack Daulton.

Witnesses have said the man sat on the bench for a short time and was wearing a hat. The bomb later exploded under the same bench on July 27, 1996, killing one person and injuring more than 100.

Federal agents also re-released a sketch showing a man seen near an abortion clinic in suburban Sandy Springs shortly before two bombs exploded there Jan. 16.

That sketch also was released in March, but no one has come forward, said Jack Killorin, an Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent.

Investigators have said they believe the two bombings, plus one in February at an Atlanta gay nightclub, are linked.
