Dozen Agencies Share $206,950 To Help Children, Families

The Spokane County Community Network distributed $206,950 to 12 agencies with programs to help children or families. Here’s how the money was spent: Washington State University, $15,000 for parenting classes in Spokane for low-income parents of small children.

Nine Mile Falls School District, $11,327 for courses that stress problem solving, communication and conflict management by challenging teams of students physically.

Single Parent Outreach Connection, $28,100 to provide job training for low-income single parents.

East Central Community Center, $20,200 for after-school activities for teens.

Crosswalk, $13,440 to teach parenting skills to fathers in their teens and early 20s.

Central Valley School District, $23,380 for family-support projects.

Children’s Home Society, $18,303 for family-support projects for families living in poverty.

Spokane Regional Health District, $40,000 for parenting classes and visits to homes where children are at risk of being abused.

Gonzaga Volunteer Services, $7,700 for one-on-one mentoring of fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students.

West Valley School District, $11,300 for English as a Second Language classes and family-support projects.

Martin Luther King Jr. Center, $15,000 for after-school recreational and educational activities.

Transitional Living Center, $3,200 to support women who are homeless or victims of domestic violence.
