Jobless Flood Victims Eligible For Assistance

From Staff And Wire Reports

Pend Oreille County residents left unemployed by floods are entitled to disaster assistance, state officials said.

Any worker who is either unable to get to work, laid off or injured due to floods on April 10 and June 30 is eligible for benefits, ranging from $108 to $365 per week.

Floods from melting snow packs damaged an estimated 144 homes and businesses, and caused an estimated $1.3 million in damage to public facilities in the county.

President Clinton last week declared the county a disaster area. Claims must be filed by Aug. 23 to the state Employment Security office. , DataTimes
