Newport Forest District Gets New Ranger

Dan Dallas is the U.S. Forest Service’s new Newport District Ranger. He’ll start work Monday.

Since 1992, Dallas had been in charge of range, watershed, wildlife and fisheries on the Beaverhead/ Deerlodge National Forests, based in Sheridan, Mont. He replaces Margaret Kain, who took a job in the Forest Service regional office in Portland last February.

Dallas earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in range management from the University of Idaho. He also has worked for the Yakama Indian Nation in Washington, the Natural Resource Conservation Service in Idaho, and the Forest Service in Nevada.

His background includes a stint as acting district ranger on the Philipsburg Ranger District on the Beaverhead/ Deerlodge Forests.

Dallas is moving to Newport with his wife, Katherine, and their 1-year-old son, Mitchell.
