Trucker Pays Child Support To Get Rig Back
An Othello man handed over a check for $6,800 to Adams County prosecutors Tuesday in return for his purple 1985 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.
The prosecutor’s office seized Mario Garza’s tractor last week after previous attempts to get him to pay $29,683 in back child support failed.
The tractor, worth about $13,000, was towed to a storage yard in Moses Lake and would have been auctioned off if Garza had not provided the partial payment.
That type of seizure is considered a last resort in child-support enforcement cases, said Adams County Prosecutor David Sandhaus.
Because Garza is self-employed, there was no other way to garnish his wages.
