2-Year-Old Killed When Car Runs Over Her

A 2-year-old girl was killed Saturday night when her mother’s car shifted into reverse and ran over the child, Spokane police said.

The girl was standing outside the car while her 23-year-old mother was inside retrieving a cassette tape, police said.

The mother started the vehicle, and it went into reverse, running over the child. The car moved about 100 feet before stopping, police said.

The child, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Her mother suffered a leg injury.

Police are investigating to determine the cause of the accident.
