Cheney Teen Killed In 1-Car Accident

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Cheney teenager was killed in a one-car accident Friday outside of his hometown.

Paul J. Shelley, 17, was driving west on Salnave Road at 10:15 p.m. when his car failed to negotiate a curve.

He was driving at a high speed, said the Washington State Patrol. His car crossed the road and rolled one and a half times before coming to rest upside down. Shelley, who was partially ejected, died on the scene of massive head injuries.

Two passengers in his car were injured. Joshua M. Dunbar, 16, of Cheney, suffered a broken collar bone. Andrew Z. Carlin, 19, also of Cheney, had neck and back abrasions.

The two were transported by ambulance to Deaconess Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

Washington State Patrol said three others were in the vehicle but left the scene after the accident.
