Clemson Golfer Wins Title

Charles Warren of Clemson came from six shots off the pace to win the NCAA Division I men’s golf championship in a playoff at Lake Forest, Ill.

Warren made a two-putt par on the first extra hole at Conway Farms Golf Club to beat Brad Elder of Texas.

Pepperdine, led by Jason Gore, won the team championship by three strokes over perennial power Wake Forest.

Annika Sorenstam shot a 6-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Hiroshi Kobayashi after three rounds of the LPGA Michelob Light Classic in St. Louis.

Sorenstam completed 54 holes at 205, 11-under-par for the 6,337-yard Forest Hills Country Club course.

Gil Morgan shot a 3-under-par 69 to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Ameritech Senior Open at Kemper Lakes Golf Course in Long Grove, Ill. Morgan’s two-round total of 136 kept him ahead of Hale Irwin, who had a 6-under 66.

At Dublin, Ohio, the third round of the Memorial Tournament was suspended after relentless rain turned the Muirfield Village Golf Club into an unplayable swamp.
