Ghana, Guinea Send Troops To End Mutiny

Compiled From Wire Services

Soldiers from Ghana and Guinea joined a West African peacekeeping force on the streets of Freetown on Saturday, increasing the pressure on mutinous soldiers to end their violent coup.

The coup leaders, meanwhile, confirmed they were meeting with regional African governments who are seeking a peaceful end to the six-day standoff between rebellious troops and supporters of the toppled regime.

With tensions mounting, the French navy on Saturday evacuated about 200 foreigners left behind when U.S. and British troops rescued hundreds of people a day earlier.
