Officer Faces Assault Charge

A Vancouver police officer has been charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly grabbing his girlfriend and hitting her in the abdomen.

Thomas T. Loos, 32, is the second Vancouver officer charged this year in such a case. Loos is scheduled to appear June 12 in Clark County District Court to enter a plea.

The maximum penalty is one year in jail and a $5,000 fine. A conviction also would carry an automatic ban on possessing firearms, which could jeopardize the job of a police officer.
