Pair Arrested After Carjacking
A 19-year-old Spanaway, Wash., man and a boy are in jail following a Friday morning carjacking in north Spokane, police said.
Chauncey Rachal, 19, and the juvenile were arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and first-degree kidnapping, police said.
Police said one of the suspects shot a 15-year-old boy in the foot at an East Sinto apartment at 4 a.m. The boy was treated at a hospital and released, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.
Rachal and the juvenile apparently returned to the area three hours later and forced the driver of a black 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood to let them in the car.
After driving a short distance, the suspects forced the driver out of the car, Cottam said.
Police spotted the vehicle on North Wall shortly before 11 a.m. The suspects parked the car, then went into a house at 1410 N. Wall, Cottam said.
Officers asked the homeowner, Tina Martin, for permission to search her home. Martin, 23, allegedly attacked one of the officers and was arrested for third-degree assault.
