DECISIONS

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that a surviving spouse is entitled to her late husband’s full pension and need not share it with his children from an earlier marriage. The decision undercuts estate laws in nine states, including Washington and Idaho.

IN PASSING

The body of Jeff Buckley, who had a hit in 1994 with the song “Last Goodbye,” was found floating Wednesday in a harbor leading to the Mississippi River near where he went swimming on May 29. He was 30.

George Fenneman, the gracious sidekick to comedian Groucho Marx on television’s “You Bet Your Life,” died from emphysema May 29. He was 77.

J. Anthony Lukas, a newspaper reporter and author who won two Pulitzer Prizes for writing about social upheavals of the 1960s and ‘70s, committed suicide shortly after completing his latest book. He was 64. Lukas was found dead Thursday in his New York apartment.

Dennis James, one of television’s first emcees and the host of shows such as “The Price is Right” and “Name That Tune” game shows, died of cancer Tuesday. he was 79.
