Plans To Rebuild Monroe Street Ok’d

Compiled From Wire Services

The Spokane City Council on Monday approved plans to rebuild Monroe Street from Bridge to Sinto avenues.

The $800,000 project calls for reconstructing the pothole-scarred street from curb to curb. The city will request bids on the work later this month.

Work on Monroe will be done in two phases. The stretch from Bridge to 400 feet north of Mallon will be rebuilt this summer, starting in August. The section from north of Mallon to Sinto will be rebuilt next year. Federal dollars from the Lincoln Street bridge project will pay for the reconstruction.

Once the bridge is in place, Monroe will serve as a one-way arterial southbound from Sinto while Lincoln will serve northbound traffic.
