Park Heights Baptist Welcomes Pastor

Nina Culver Correspondent

The Rev. Arthur Jacobson has been welcomed as the new pastor at Park Heights Baptist Church, 5101 S. Freya. Jacobson took over his duties in May after being semiretired for several years.

Jacobson officially retired in 1989 after serving nine years at Central Baptist Church. After his retirement he served as an interim pastor at several churches in the Northwest, then took a part-time position as the elder visitation pastor at Grace Baptist Church for four years.

Jacobson says he’s happy to be back to full-time work again.

“The Lord can use older people in the ministry,” says Jacobson. “Some people think they’re through when they hit 65, but they’re not.”

Jacobson became a pastor at age 49 after a successful career in advertising and public relations in Southern California. Jacobson says he received what he will only describe as a “mystical call.”

He graduated from seminary in 1976 and spent a year in the inner city of Los Angeles.

“Everyone ought to have the opportunity to minister in the inner city,” says Jacobson. “It’s a real eye-opener.”

Jacobson says he and his congregation are looking forward to accomplishing great things in the future.
