Burglars Hit West Spokane Businesses

From Staff And Wire Reports

Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a string of business burglaries in western Spokane County, one of which netted a thief $20,000 in signed payroll checks.

Thieves broke into four businesses between Marshall and Medical Lake on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, deputies said.

Shamrock Paving may have been hardest hit.

Someone used a rock to break out a window at the company’s building at 110 N. Hayford Road, then ransacked several offices.

Deputies said the thief or thieves made off with nearly 30 payroll checks and the office safe, which contained a small amount of cash and several vehicle titles.

The safe was recovered Thursday southeast of Cheney. It had been dropped from a railroad bridge and the door was pried open, deputies said.

Also burglarized were Castle Materials Co., 10710 S. Cheney-Spokane Road; Key Rock Construction, 9005 S. Cheney-Spokane; and Four Lakes Exxon at state Highway 904 and Interstate 90.

It was the third break-in at Key Rock in the past two months, deputies said.

Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call Crime Check, 456-2233.
