Shadow’s Plans To Celebrate Division Title Placed On Hold
The Spokane Shadow will have to wait at least until tonight if they are to celebrate a second consecutive USISL Premier League Northwest Division championship.
The Shadow, having already clinched a tie for the division title, gave some ground in a 3-2 loss to the Yakima Reds on Friday night.
Spokane led 2-1 in the second half before Yakima rallied.
Yakima tied the score at 2 on a free kick after the Shadow’s Craig Waible drew a red card for retaliation. The score came when Yakima’s Miguel Camarena picked up the free kick near the Spokane 17-yard line and put the ball in the net past Spokane keeper Brian Mullen at 64 minutes.
The winning goal game 18 minutes later. Mike Rundquist carried the ball up the field, drew a pair of Spokane defenders, then passed to Ocpabio DoValle. Rundquist took a return pass from DoValle and scored on a 6-yarder from the middle of the field.
Yakima’s Jacob Murphy opened the scoring at 4:45 with a 12-yarder after the Reds broke a Spokane trap along the right side 25 yards out.
Waible, on a pass from Simeon Enemuo, tied the score on a 10-yarder at 32 minutes, then Spokane took its lead on a header by Enemuo. The score was set up by Lane Jerdal, who advanced the ball from the backfield all the way to Yakima’s goal area before flipping it to the middle for Enemuo.
Spokane (10-2) can seal the deal on the division championship when it faces Yakima (5-6) at 7:05 tonight at Albi Stadium.
