Summer Packed With Theater Events
The Inland Northwest has a wealth of summer theater scheduled in the next three months:
The Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, the region’s major professional summer-stock company, presents a four-show season of musicals, all at the Schuler Auditorium at North Idaho College:
“Annie Get Your Gun” - Irving Berlin’s Wild West musical, July 10-19.
“Jesus Christ Superstar” - The Andrew Lloyd Webber classic, July 24-Aug. 2.
“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” - A ribald country-western musical, Aug. 7-16.
“South Pacific” - The Rodgers and Hammerstein masterpiece, Aug. 21-30.

The Spokane Theatrical Company, a new troupe with hopes of becoming a permanent professional summer-stock company in Spokane, presents its inaugural show at The Met this summer: “Carousel” - The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical with a carnival theme, July 18-26. The Spokane Civic Theatre presents its summer show on the Main Stage, 1020 N. Howard:
“Black Comedy” - Peter Shaffer’s uproarious comedy about a blackout, July 10-Aug. 2. Call 325-2507 for tickets.
The Performing Arts and Humanities of Sandpoint brings its summer production into The Met in Spokane for two performances:
“The Pirates of Penzance” - Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta, Friday, 8 p.m. and Saturday, 4 p.m. Call 325-SEAT or (800) 325-SEAT for tickets.
The Pullman Summer Palace, in conjunction with Washington State University, presents three shows at R.R. Jones Theatre in Daggy Hall on the Pullman campus:
“The Mousetrap” - Agatha Christie’s long-running mystery, Thursday-Saturday, July 2-5.
“The Front Page” - Ben Hecht’s classic newsroom farce, July 10-12, July 16-19.
“The Pirates of Penzance” - Another production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, July 24-26, July 30-Aug. 2.

The Sixth Street Melodrama, in its 14th season in Wallace, Idaho, runs a two-show season July 8-Aug. 23, complete with booing and hissing:
“Alias Smedley Pewtree, or The Villain of Glitter Gulch,” an original melodrama in the old-fashioned style. Wednesdays and Fridays at 8 p.m.
“Sally’s Virtue, or Playing Games at the Snake Pit,” a locally written melodrama about North Idaho. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 8 p.m.
