Williams Rallies Past Weber As Bowling Leaves Airwaves

Compiled From Wire Services

Walter Ray Williams Jr., the No. 1-ranked bowler in the world, defeated second-ranked Pete Weber in the championship match of the Professional Bowlers Association’s St. Clair Classic on Saturday.

The match likely was the last to be televised by ABC and described by Chris Schenkel.

Williams went into the ninth frame down 12 pins to Weber.

Williams then struck on his first ball in the ninth and the next two in the tenth, meaning Weber had to double in his final frame. Weber pulled his first ball high and left the 3-6-10 split to give Williams the match.

Williams and Weber are competing to become the first PBA bowler to go over $2 million in career earnings. Williams earned $18,000 for Saturday’s victory and moved to within less than $2,000 of the $2 million figure.

Weber’s check of $9,500 moved him to slightly more than $15,000 away.
