Ten years ago: Comedian-actor Jackie Gleason died at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at age 71.

Five years ago: The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, strengthened its 30-year ban on officially sponsored worship in public schools, prohibiting prayer as a part of graduation ceremonies.

One year ago: A jury ordered the city of Philadelphia to pay $1.5 million in damages for the bombing of MOVE headquarters in 1985 that killed 11 people.
