Former U.S. Olympic ice hockey coach Dave Peterson will undergo multiple heart bypass surgery Wednesday after suffering a heart attack at his home Sunday, a USA Hockey official said. Peterson, 66, coached the U.S. teams in the 1992 and 1988 Winter Olympics… . A Detroit police representative said possible charges against Richard Gnida, the driver in the limousine crash that left a Detroit Red Wings defenseman and team masseur comatose, must wait until police wrap up their investigation.

Chris Campbell, a two-time Olympic wrestler, who has become a vocal advocate of athletes’ rights, has been picked to head USA Boxing. Campbell, a labor lawyer from San Rafael, Calif., will start the new job July 14. He will be the first black executive director of an American Olympic sport… . Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge stemming from a June 7 traffic stop in which police found 12.7 grams of marijuana in the car’s console and in a back pack… . Scott Sharp, seriously injured in practice for the Indianapolis 500, has returned to driving and will race next weekend, the Conseco/ A.J. Foyt team announced Monday.
