Richard Akers Spokane

Service for Richard D. “Rick” Akers, 38, is planned for 4 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Akers, who was born in Orange, Calif., died Thursday.

He graduated from Ephrata (Wash.) High School, Wenatchee College and Wenatchee College Nursing School.

He worked as a nurse for Franklin Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Spokane for seven years.

Mr. Akers moved to the Spokane area 10 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Tammy; a daughter, Melissa Akers at home; a son, Jed Akers of Spokane; a stepson, Brad Tolliver of Seattle; his mother, Emily Akers of Florida; a brother, Chris Akers of East Wenatchee; four sisters, Terri Youngers of Seattle, Deborah Kerr of San Diego, and Cindy White and Melissa Campbell, both of Florida; and two grandchildren.

William Fleck Sr. Spokane

Funeral Mass for William J. “Bill” Fleck Sr., 86, is planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Augustine Catholic Church. There will be private inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fleck, who was born in Richardson, N.D., died Friday.

He was a 75-year Spokane resident and worked in sales for Richardson and Holland Bakery Supplies for 43 years.

Mr. Fleck was a member of St. Augustine Parish, Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club and the Brotherhood of Friends.

His wife, Juanita Fleck, died in last September.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Fleck of Spokane, Richard Fleck of Diamond Lake, Wash., and William Fleck Jr. of Tualatin, Ore.; two daughters, Donna Camp of Spokane and Janice Loosemore of Newport, Wash.; a brother, Donald Fleck of Seattle; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ralph Faust Coeur d’Alene

Vigil service for Ralph Michael Faust, 80, is set for 7 p.m. today at the English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Faust, who was born in Chicago, died Sunday.

He moved to North Idaho from Illinois in 1980 and had worked as a patent attorney, retiring in the mid-1970s.

Mr. Faust had served as mayor of Berwin, Ill., for two years.

He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church and was active in the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret “Peggy”; eight sons, Ralph Faust Jr., of California, Peter Faust of Twin Lakes, Idaho, David and Vincent Faust, both of Michigan, Thomas Faust of Arizona, Stephen Faust of Rathdrum, Jerome Faust of Spokane and Daniel Faust of Shelton, Wash.; two daughters, Penny Strutch and Peggy Nielsen, both of Illinois; two sisters, Genivieve Alexander of Chicago and Eileen Murray of Nebraska; and 17 grandchildren.

Howard Gustaveson Moscow

Service for Howard P. Gustaveson, 71, will be at 10 a.m. today at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Burial will follow at the Viola (Idaho) Cemetery.

Mr. Gustaveson, who was born in Moscow, died Sunday.

He grew up in Moscow and graduated from Moscow High School.

Mr. Gustaveson served in the Army during World War II in Germany and later returned to the Moscow area.

He worked as a mechanic for Carl Cunningham Motors until 1971. He moved to Moscow from Viola in 1975.

Mr. Gustaveson later worked as a custodian for the University of Idaho, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Joan; a son, Daryl Gustaveson of Creston, Wash.; twin daughters, Janice Becker of Moscow and Janna Fairley of Clarkston, Wash.; his foster mother, Linda Parkins of Viola; two foster brothers, Ray Parkins of Genesee, Idaho, and Jack Parkins of St. Maries; a foster sister, Joan Coleman of Coeur d’Alene; and nine grandchildren.

Lee Taylor Hayden

Visitation for M. Lee Taylor, 50, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Thursday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens with service at 2 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Ms. Taylor, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

She lived in Spokane and graduated from Eastern Washington State College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in education.

She taught school for two years in Klickitat, Wash., and graduated from Northwest College for Medical Assistants in Seattle.

She later moved to Hayden.

Ms. Taylor was a member of the Community Methodist Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Survivors include an uncle and several cousins.

Gary Perala Spokane

Memorial service for Gary C. Perala, 56, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Perala, who was born in Belgrade, Minn., died June 9.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy and the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine.

In 1964 he married Judith Distad in Northfield, Minn.

Mr. Perala served in the Army during the Vietnam War and later moved to Spokane, where he worked as a podiatrist for 17 years.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Washington State Podiatric Association.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ty Perala, and a daughter, Kirsten Perala, both of Spokane; his mother, Pearl Perala of Belgrade; a sister, Kay Buyse of Minneapolis; and a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice of Spokane.

Louise Alfano San Leandro, Calif.

Service for Louise Alfano, 101, a former Spokane resident, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alfano, who was born in Italy, died Saturday.

She had lived in Spokane for 51 years and moved to California in 1957.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Alfano is survived by three sons, Hank Alfano of Spokane, Alfred Alfano of Coeur d’ Alene and Eugene Alfano of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Mary and Elinor Alfano, both of San Leandro; a brother, Phil Caruso of Spokane; three sisters, Sue Thorpe of Puyallup, Wash., Virginia Caruso of Seattle and Helen Ryan of Menlo Park, Calif.; and 49 grandchildren.

Rose Ann Chance Spokane

Funeral Mass for Rose Ann Chance, 89, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at St. Ann Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chance, who was born in Copeland, Idaho, died Saturday.

She was a 62-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

Mrs. Chance was a member of St. Ann Parish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Bud” Chance.

Survivors include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or the Spokane Humane Society.

Joyce (Farris) Kozlowski Priest Lake, Idaho

No service will be held for Joyce (Farris) Kozlowski, 74, at her request. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kozlowski, who was born in Samuels, Idaho, died Saturday.

She spent most of her childhood at Priest Lake at her father’s resort, Farris Resort, now known as Hill’s Resort.

She graduated from North Central High School and in 1957 married Stanley Kozlowski in San Diego.

In 1970 they moved to Priest Lake, where she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Kozlowski is survived by her husband; two sons, Michael Sharp of Sparks, Nev., and Jim Kozlowski of Olympia; a daughter, Patti Francis of Newport; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mabel Robacher Coeur d’Alene

Private family service for Mabel M. Robacher, 87, will be held at a later date. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Robacher, who was born in Nebraska, died Friday.

She moved to Veradale, Wash., in 1920 from Nebraska and grew up in the Spokane Valley. She attended Central Valley High School.

Mrs. Robacher moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1942 and had worked for Armour Meat Packing in Spokane for 15 years and Liberty National Insurance in Coeur d’Alene for 15 years.

She was also a homemaker.

Her husband, Ralph, died in 1965.

Survivors include two sisters, Helen Huffman of Deer Park and Betty Berk of Othello, Wash.

Gertrude Cornell Priest River, Idaho

Service for Gertrude Cornell, 81, will be at 2 p.m. today at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will be at at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Cornell, who died Sunday, was born in Priest River.

She was a longtime resident of Kellogg and Lewiston before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1979.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Priest River since 1995.

Her husband, George Cornell, died in 1973.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Brask of Mead; two sisters, Mary Schaefer of Priest River and Ann Emily of Oregon; and one grandchild.

Frances Lundberg Spokane

No service will be held for Frances Lundberg, 76, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lundberg, who was born in Walla Walla, died Friday.

She had lived in the Spokane area for 28 years and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Lundberg was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 2 Auxiliary, Moose Lodge Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 2351.

Her husband, Vincent Lundberg, died in 1979.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Murphy of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Darleen Lundberg of Mead; four sisters, Betty Gibson, Shirley Williamson, Billie Wilcox and Donna Freeland; a granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.

Belle Bare Wiemer Eugene, Ore.

Memorial service for Belle Bare Wiemer, 94, was Saturday at the Eugene Good Samaritan Center. Mrs. Wiemer, who was born in Athena, Ore., died last Wednesday.

She attended Whitman College and Cheney Normal School and later taught school in Oregon and Washington.

In 1924 she married Russell Bare in Spokane and they made their home in the Mount Hope and Fairfield area, where they farmed. Her husband died in 1958.

In 1962 she married Earl Wiemer in Coeur d’Alene, and they moved to Tekoa, Wash., and Rocky Point on Lake Chatcolet in Idaho.

Her husband died in 1968, and she later moved to Springfield, Ore.

Mrs. Wiemer is survived by five daughters, Frances Gerling of Waverly, Betty Thomas of Post Falls, Margery Kohn of Tacoma, Joan Adams of Ventura, Wash., and Janet Wolfe of Springfield, Ore.; a brother, George Pambrun of Junction City, Ore.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Clara Headrick Moscow

Memorial service for Clara M. Headrick, 86, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Private family graveside service will precede.

Mrs. Headrick, who was born in Troy, Idaho, died Friday.

She grew up in the Randall Flat area near Troy until moving to Moscow in 1955.

She had worked at the University of Idaho as a cook and janitor from 1955 until her retirement in 1976.

She was a member of the Roadrunners senior travel group and participated in activities at the Moscow Community Center.

Survivors include three sons, Rodney Headrick of Moscow, Donald Headrick of Spokane and Everett Headrick of Hayden Lake; three sisters, Martha Zehm and Dorothy Weber, both of Spokane, and Minnie Eder of Oregon; a half-brother, Robert Headrick of California; nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
