Bandits Win Twice In Legion

Rob Bartlett and Kenny Beeler hit grand slams and combined for 11 runs batted in Wednesday to guide the Bandits (6-3) over the Royals 17-5 in AAA American Legion baseball at Jackson Field.

Andy Dunham’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning rallied the Bandits to a 14-13 win over the North Stars (2-11) in the first game at Jackson.

Aaron Fryer had three singles for the Bandits, who trailed the North Stars 10-6 after 5-1/2 innings. Seth Winterer had three singles for the North Stars.

Bill Graffis had a solo homer for the Royals (4-4).

Tucker Urdahl of Cheney went 2 for 3 last weekend as a team of Washington prep baseball all-stars beat Oregon all-stars in Vancouver. Mead’s Grant Reeves went 1 for 3.

Girls soccer

Marissa Hatcher had one goal and one assist as the U15 Spokane Skyhawks beat Kansas City 3-0 in the 22nd Pike’s Peak Invitational at Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hatcher scored 5 minutes before halftime. Holly Ready scored from the left wing 15 minutes into the second half, then Hatcher and Alissa Riccelli fed Rachel Lassman for the final goal.

Spokane goalkeepers Abbie Socha and Jill Severson had three saves apiece.

Golf

Mark Gardner of The Creek at Qualchan shot an opening-round, 1-under-par 71 to trail four golfers by one shot at the Sunriver Oregon Open.

Randy Buckenberger of Twin Lakes Village shot 74 at the Pacific Northwest Section PGA event and is in a group of nine tied for 18th. Another shot back is Spokane’s Michael Rorholm.

The field will be cut to the top 65 professionals, with ties, after today’s second round.

Washington State University’s Dan Koesters lost the past champions skills challenge to Seattle’s Doug Doxsie in a putt-off.
