Rehab Efforts Begin On Comatose Red Wing Player
Rehabilitation efforts have begun on comatose Detroit Red Wings defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov and a team masseur, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Konstantinov and Sergei Mnatsakanov, who suffered head injuries when the limousine they were riding in crashed June 13, remained in critical but stable condition.
But a rehabilitation team, including physical, speech and occupational therapists, was working on the men, said Yvette Monet, a William Beaumont Hospital spokeswoman. “Right now, they can direct their efforts at the prevention of problems that can result from being immobile,” she said. For example, the men’s arms and legs were being moved to prevent stiffness.
Therapists were also consulting with family members, letting them know what to expect.
