St. John’s Cathedral To Offer Carillon Concerts

Nina Culver Correspondent

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th, will present the first concert in its Carillon Guest Recital series on next Thursday.

The hourlong concert, featuring Richard Strauss of Oakland, Calif., will begin at 7 p.m. Listeners are encouraged to picnic on the lawn during the presentation.

Four additional carillon concerts are scheduled during July.

Ulla Laage of Copenhagen, Denmark, will perform on July 10. Ann-Kirstine Christiansen of Arhus, Denmark, will perform on July 17.

The performance on July 24 will feature Carlo van Ulft from the city of Velden in the Netherlands. Adrian Gebruers of Cobh, Ireland, will be the featured performer July 31.

All concerts are free and will begin at 7 p.m. There will be tours of the cathedral and an opportunity to meet the performer after each concert.

Musical family to perform

The Keffer family will be appearing in concert Friday at 7 p.m. at Sunset Hill Baptist Church, 2828 W. Sunset Blvd.

The Keffers have traveled the country for the past 12 years performing concerts. This will be their first appearance in the Northwest and their only concert in Washington.

The quartet - the Keffers and their son and daughter - sing mostly songs in the Southern gospel style.

The concert is free and all are invited to attend.
