Students Named To Catholic College Honor Association

Four Washington students who were inducted into the Gamma chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma, the international honor society for students of Catholic colleges and universities, are, from Carroll College in Helena: Amy Arnold of Spokane, biology major; Laura Budinsky of Veradale, biology major; Adam Jelinek of Clarkston, Wash., biology major; and Amy Wendleburg of Spokane, accounting major.

Susan Goffinet of Spokane and a psychology major at Carroll College was recognized for graduating as a member of the Honors Scholars Program.

Rebecca Michelotti of Pullman was inducted into the Zeta Upsilon chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the honor society for nursing students at Carroll College.

Chris Schelling, of Spokane, was inducted into Carroll College’s Omega-Eta chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society in history. He is a biology/ history major.

Ryan Vold, a sophomore at Spokane Falls Community College and 1996 graduate of Sprague (Wash.) High School, has been selected to participate in the inaugural class of the Dupont New Century Farmers Program at the Agricultural Technology Center in Bloomington, Ill.

The program combines interactive learning about the issues, trends and forces shaping global agriculture; hands-on exposure to the latest in ag technology; focused workshops on some key concerns of finance and business questions; and sessions on personal and professional development.

Joel E. Ferris High School senior Selena Winston won a second-place $350 scholarship at the Hispanic Graduate Awards Banquet. The banquet is sponsored by the Spokane area Hispanic Business Professional Association.

David Huang, a junior at Ferris, received a full scholarship from the Spokane-Nishinomiya Sister City Society to go to Japan this summer for six weeks.

The Jonas Babcock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented Whitney Porter, a fourth-grade student at Seth Woodard Elementary, with a national award sponsored by the NSDAR for Good Citizenship. A straight-A student, Whitney has donated more than 200 hours of volunteer service to the community this year. She conducted a pop-top drive for the Ronald McDonald House, adopted a senior citizen in a retirement center and has worked to save endangered animals.

The University of Washington 1995-96 Freshman Medalists award was presented to Kathryn Temple of Greenacres. She was a valedictorian of Central Valley High School’s Class of 1995 and a member of the Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America.

An economics major, Temple is the daughter of Robert and Judith Temple and was a recipient of the 1995-96 Freshman Mathematics Award.

University High School student Mark Stoeser, received the 1997 Padgett Business Services Scholarship. In order to qualify, an applicant must be the son or daughter of an independent business owner. He is the son of Richard Stoeser, who owns and operates Rick Stoeser Construction.
