Kaiser Worker Suffers Head Injury From Fall

A 50-year-old man who fell about 20 feet onto his head at Kaiser Aluminum’s Trentwood plant was listed in serious condition Friday at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Roy Barker of Coeur d’Alene fell from a ladder Tuesday morning. He was not wearing a hard hat.

A woman who witnessed the fall found Barker laying unconscious on the ground about 30 seconds later, according to a paramedic report. Barker was bleeding from his nose and ears, the report said.

Valley Fire District paramedics who treated Barker at the scene said he did not respond to any form of stimuli and did not regain consciousness.

“He was significantly injured,” said Larry Rider, Valley Fire division chief.

Barker was airlifted to Sacred Heart where he is being treated in the intensive care unit. Barker’s condition is listed as serious, but stable, a hospital spokeswoman said.

It was not known whether Barker was working at the time of the accident or what caused the fall. A Kaiser spokeswoman was out of town and could not be reached for comment.
