No. 2 Cardinals Had Third Best Total Of Points

Research supported John Owen’s theory. North Idaho College took second at the NJCAA wrestling tournament on Saturday with a point total - 135.5 - good enough to have won most years.

Owen combed through NJCAA records on the flight home from Bismarck, N.D., and discovered NIC’s total was the third highest in tournament history behind Triton College’s 145-1/4 in 1984 and, obviously, Lassen’s 140 this year.

NIC, which has won 10 national titles, won in 1987 with 132 and in 1986 with 131. The Cardinals once won with 87 points.

“Unbelievable,” Owen said.

Owen said numerous Cards are receiving recruiting interest, including 190-pound Josh Clausen from Oklahoma and 167-pound Jason Moaney from Iowa State.

Folau sent overseas

Former University of Idaho football player Spencer Folau has been allocated to play for Rhein of the World League of American Football.

Folau, an offensive lineman, was with Baltimore last year in the NFL.

West Valley High graduate Tim Hanshaw, a San Francisco offensive lineman, was sent to London.

Seattle quarterback Jon Kitna was allocated to Barcelona and linebacker Eric Unverzagt to Scotland.
