Hewlett-Packard Enhances Test Device

From Staff And Wire Reports

Devices produced at Hewlett-Packard Co.’s Spokane plant have been enhanced to test both cellular and PCS telephone equipment, according to marketing communications manager Jan Whitacre.

New features introduced at an industry trade show this week have extended the radio-frequency bandwidth company testers can check, she said.

One new product can be added to testing equipment already mounted on cellular towers, Whitacre said. Two more are intended for telephone manufacturers, who will be able to test their products more quickly and so increase output.

One feature will improve protections against fraud, a significant problem for the industry.

PCS, or personal communication services, has recently entered the cellular phone market with digital technology. But Whitacre said conventional cellular technology remains popular, particularly in the Far East.
