Ceridian Settles Age Bias Lawsuits

Compiled From Wire Services

Ceridian Corp., formerly Control Data Corp., announced Wednesday it will pay up to $24 million to settle lawsuits brought by 313 former employees who claimed they were fired because of their age.

Control Data Systems Inc., the computer business spun off by Control Data Corp., will pay an additional $4.5 million under the agreement.

“The decision to settle was made reluctantly,” said Lawrence Perlman, Ceridian chairman and chief executive.

Perlman said work force reductions were designed to be fair to all employees and that the average age and percentage of workers 40 and older increased during the layoff period.

“There were reasons other than age for every termination,” he said.
