Flooding Glance

State-by-state details on flooding and tornadoes since Saturday:

Kentucky - 17 people dead in floods, including four bodies found Wednesday in northern Kentucky town of Falmouth. 1,000 National Guardsmen on duty. Evacuations “in the tens of thousands.” Nine counties declared disaster areas by President Clinton. Governor requests declaration for additional 15 counties; estimates damage at more than $232 million. Ohio River expected to remain at near crest level into the middle of next week.

Ohio - Five dead in floods. More than 1,000 National Guardsmen on duty; 16 counties declared disaster areas. Red Cross estimated at least 3,000 homes damaged. State officials estimate at least $40 million in damage. Rain expected to end Thursday.

Indiana - Governor declares state of emergency in all 13 counties along the Ohio River. At least 980 people evacuated. No damage figures yet. Inmates, National Guard troops and volunteers help sandbag leaking floodwall in Tell City.

West Virginia - One dead in floods. Governor declares state of emergency in 15 counties. No damage estimate yet. Ohio River crest in Huntington highest since March 1955.

Tennessee - Five dead in floods and tornadoes, one missing.

Mississippi - One killed by tornado. Arkansas - 25 killed by tornadoes.
