Sam Jacobson, slowed by a virus the past three games, scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half as No. 2 Minnesota rallied to beat Michigan State 81-74 Thursday night for its first perfect home record since 1948-49.

Courtney James added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Big Ten-champion Golden Gophers (27-2, 16-1), who won their 12th straight overall and finished the season 14-0 in Williams Arena. The Spartans fell to 15-11, 8-9.

At Las Vegas, the Lobos (24-6) beat the Rainbows (20-7) in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament.

At Memphis, Tenn., Dale Brown’s 25-year coaching career at LSU came to an end when the Bulldogs beat the Tigers in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament.

Brown, 61, announced Jan. 2 that this would be his last year.

His LSU record was 447-301, including 10-20 this year - the Tigers’ third straight losing season.

In another game at Las Vegas, Keith Van Horn tipped in an in-bounds lob pass at the buzzer, rallying the Utes (24-3) to a wild victory over the Mustangs (16-12) in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament.

At Philadelphia, freshman Lamont Barnes scored eight points to help the Owls take an early 22-6 lead and then scored eight more in overtime as Temple (19-9) beat the Musketeers (22-5) and advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament.

Also at Philadelphia, their leading scorer went scoreless for most of the game and its top defensive player spent the second half on the bench, yet the Hawks (22-6) still routed the Bonnies (14-14) in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals.

At St. Louis, the 49ers (20-7) beat the Cardinals (23-8), wiping out a 14-point deficit in the second half and hanging on for a victory in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament.

In New York, defensive specialist Chuck Kornegay scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds - 10 offensive - as the top-seeded Wildcats (22-8) overwhelmed the eighth-seeded Orange (19-12) with their size.
