Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I used to have one of those washers that “walked” around the basement during its spin cycle. Every time this problem was fixed, it would start up again after a few weeks.

My solution? I took home a dozen or so old computer mouse pads from work. They were being replaced and with their nonslip backing and their spongelike rubber foam, I figured they would keep the washer in place.

I placed a few under each corner until the washer was balanced. It worked great! The washer doesn’t walk around anymore. The mouse pads also helped to keep it from stopping because of an unbalanced load during the spin cycle. - Billie Murdoch, Columbus, Ohio xxxx
