Maybe Darrington Boys Had Breakfast In Bed

Darrington coach Jeff Bryson, who played the 9 a.m. opener when he brought his Loggers to the State B tournament in 1994, thought he knew what to expect when this year’s team drew Wednesday’s early game.

What he didn’t expect was a messed-up dining schedule that had him wondering if an early morning tipoff might be more than his team could stomach.

After completing their cross-state trek and arriving at their hotel late Tuesday afternoon, the Loggers went to dinner and learned reservations there were running 45 minutes late.

“We didn’t get back to the hotel until 9:15,” Bryson explained. “Then this morning, our restaurant reservations were for 6, but the restaurant didn’t tell us they didn’t open until 6:30.”

The Loggers started slowly against favored Toutle Lake, but they warmed up during the course of a 68-57 upset win that set up a 47-41 win over Almira/ Coulee-Hartline in Thursday’s quarterfinals. , DataTimes
